Project "5-HT"
Dima Gorbunov's project "5-HT" is on show in JART Gallery from the 30th of January to the 29th of February 2020. This young artist has created his own mythology – a laboratory in which scientific research is carried out, and the serotonin molecule becomes an ideal form in Art.

5-HT is the chemical formula of the substance commonly known as "serotonin". Dmitry Gorbunov's new solo project deals with one of the most mysterious dependencies in this world – our human biology and culture. In what way does the body's biochemistry affect thought, consciousness and creativity and, consequently, – Art? Dmitry Gorbunov is inspired by the medical discourse describing the regulation of serotonin in the human body. He has invented his own chemical laboratory where microparticles interact with one another, giving rise to mood, emotion, new forms, or – break down into their primary elements, out of which Art is born. We know that serotonin (5-HT) is a brain mediator that is linked with positive emotions, a sense of happiness and self-confidence.

Using his own visual language, Dima Gorbunov has revealed his vision of this phenomenon in a series of paintings and sculptures. The concept behind this project was the search for "serotonin" in any work of Art. Gorbunov's mythology has required its being anchored in reality, the gathering of evidence of Art's positive influence on people. That is why the leading neuromarketing laboratory of Russia "Neurotrend", which studies the psychophysiological characteristics of human behaviour in a particular environment, has been involved in the project.

JART Gallery, along with Neurotrend, carried out the neurophysiological observation of the visitors' impressions at the exhibition and learned about the emotional impact of Art, and about whether or not the project was relevant to all the viewers, and whether or not the paintings influenced their professional outlook.
