About the author
He was born in 1967 in the small village of Ukurik (Transbaikalia), in a large family of ancient blacksmiths (darkhans), which produced the best jewellers, craftsmen and artists.

Dashi Namdakov's first solo exhibition, held at the Irkutsk Art Museum in 2000, was a huge success with the public. After some time, an invitation came to participate in an exhibition at the Central House of Artists in Moscow, which marked the beginning of Dashi's ascent to the top of the Moscow Art scene, and soon paved his way to world recognition.

National Buryat traditions and the avant-garde style are uniquely combined in Dashi's sculptures. Viewers in both the West and the East equally understand and are attracted to the imagery of his artworks.
Namdakov's works are made in the techniques of casting, forging and mixed media – bronze, silver, gold, copper, precious stones, as well as bone (mammoth tusk), horse hair and wood. Elements of national culture, Central Asian traditions and Buddhist motifs are central to this artist's style. The artist's projects have included the creation of many monuments and architectural structures. In 2012, a monumental sculpture of Genghis Khan was placed in London's Hyde Park; 2015 saw the grand unveiling of the sculpture "She-Guardian" by Dashi Namdakov.
Dashi Namdakov's exhibitions have been held at the major art venues of the world – from Tokyo and Beijing to New York and Los Angeles, in particular, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Hermitage, the State Historical Museum, the Beijing Museum of World Art, the Halcyon Gallery (London). In 2017, JART Gallery, which has been collaborating with the artist since its inception, hosted Dashi Namdakov's anniversary exhibition "Immersion".

Dashi Namdakov's works are in the collections of the State Hermitage and the Russian Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the State Museum of Oriental Art, as well as in other major museums in Europe, Asia and America. His sculptures are in the private collections of Vladimir Putin, Roman Abramovich, Gerhard Schröder and Uma Thurman.
