About the author
Igor Makarevich and Elena Elagina are a well-known art duo of artists who created their own version of conceptual art in the line of the Moscow Conceptualism school. This version was distinguished by the active use of pictorial and plastic techniques along with the creation of texts, photographs and performances. Indeed, until the mid-1970s, both artists managed to become masters in the field of traditional art.
Turning to conceptualism, they combined in their works the entertaining sociology of Ilya Kabakov, the play with borrowed styles characteristic of Komar and Melamid, the metaphysics of Eric Bulatov and the existential experiences of Andrei Monastyrsky. The result was their numerous total installations, in which the explored space of life does not belong to an alien and outside character, but, despite the exotic ethnographic seasoning, to the authors themselves.
